During a routine inspection

When we carried out our inspection the agency was providing personal care for 80 adults in their own home. During this inspection we spoke with the registered manager and staff working at the agency office. Following our inspection at the office we spoke with seven people who used the service on the telephone. We also spoke with four relatives or partners of people who used the service. In addition we spoke with five members of staff who visited people to provide care.

People we spoke with were generally complimentary about the care and support they provided. People said: 'Can't fault their enthusiasm and commitment' and: 'We are quite satisfied with them on the whole'.

Staff had been recruited in an appropriate way and checks had been undertaken to make sure that they were suitable to care for people in their own homes.

Staff received training and support to make sure they were able to provide appropriate care.

The provider had systems of audits in place to enable them to monitor the quality of the service provided. The registered manager was aware of where improvements in the service were needed. For example the registered manager was aware that people were concerned about late calls or missed calls. We found that people were also concerned about times when 'double ups' (two members of staff required to provide safe care and support) had not occurred.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with four people who used the service about the quality of care they received. People told us they were happy with the support they received and that it made a difference to their everyday living.

Comments people made were positive. One person said, 'they are very professional, they leave me with my dignity.' Another said, 'I think it's a good company, the standard of care is there.' Two people stated that there were sometimes different carers going into their home, with comments such as, 'we went through a spate where we had lots of different carers coming in.' Another person said, 'they change a bit, but they do the job well.'
