During a themed inspection looking at Offender Healthcare

We spoke to five people about the service they received. Each said they were satisfied with the service. Comments made by people included the following:

' 'They are fantastic.'

' 'They listen to what you say and give you what you need.'

We observed one person attending an appointment with a nurse regarding the management of asthma. This person was treated with respect by the nurse who we observed to be calm and attentive. The nurse explained what they were doing and gave advice on how the person could improve their health.

We saw that there was a comprehensive assessment of people's health needs when they were admitted to the Immigration and Removal Centre. This included an assessment of the risk of self harm and whether interpretation services were needed.

We found Dover Immigration Removal Centre worked in collaboration with both officers in the Immigration and Removal Centre and other health and social care providers so that people had access to a range of services.

Staff attended relevant training courses. Staff had not had regular one to one supervision due mainly to management changes. Plans were in place to introduce regular supervision. Not all staff were trained in personal safety.

Dover Immigration Removal Centre had a complaints procedure. Where complaints were made we saw there was a record of this being investigated and a response made to the complainant.
