During a routine inspection

We spoke with two people who used the service and two members of staff including the manager. All the people we spoke with were happy with their care. We observed and records showed that staff cared for people safely and could meet their needs.

None of the people we spoke with had any concerns regarding the service or care they received. Staff were aware of and the provider followed appropriate procedures to safeguard vulnerable adults from abuse.

All the people we spoke with were happy with the staff. The provider ensured an appropriate number of experienced and qualified staff were available to meet the needs of the people who used the service. However staff were not always trained regarding people's specific needs and staff rota's were not always well managed.

People told us that they were able to feedback their views about the service in meetings and they felt these views were listened to. The provider made appropriate checks to ensure the service met people's needs.

During a routine inspection

People told us or indicated they received the care they needed and wanted and were positive about the staff that supported them. Some people communicated by facial expressions, gestures and signs. Staff had a good understanding of the varied communication needs of people living in the home.

People had been involved in the assessment of their needs and their recorded plan of care. We saw people were central to their care plan and took a lead in how their care was delivered. People received treatment and advice from a variety of health and social care professionals.

Staff knew about their roles and responsibilities in meeting the needs of people and supported them in a friendly and respectful manner. Staff received the training they needed to meet people's varied needs.

People told us they made decisions about their lives. We saw people make a number of choices. These included deciding what they wanted to eat, and what they wanted to do. These choices were respected by staff.

People told us about the activities they participated in and enjoyed. People's independence and skills were promoted and supported by staff. We saw people were encouraged to do as much as possible by themselves but were provided with support when they needed help from staff.
