All Inspections

17 December 2013

During a routine inspection

Our inspection included a visit to the agency's office. The service provided care for children and adults with learning disabilities in a variety of ways. Some people were supported to attend external leisure activities and some people also received personal care. On the day of our visit we were told that Solihull Life Opportunities was providing personal care to two people.

During our inspection we looked at two care records and three staff files. We spoke with the manager and three care workers. We spoke with two relatives. One relative told us, 'SoLO is a real life line, X and the staff member have a friendship, it's not just a job to them.'

We looked at care records and saw there were personal profiles in place to guide staff how to deliver care.

We saw the service followed a robust recruitment process. Staff we spoke with said they enjoyed their jobs.

We saw feedback from people receiving personal care was not managed in a structured way. Feedback was obtained informally by telephone discussions and emails.

During a routine inspection

Solihull Life Opportunities is a large organisation that provides personal assistance, social and leisure activities to people with learning disabilities in Solihull and the surrounding area.

For the purpose of this inspection we focused on the personal assistant service that is registered with CQC.

People using the service were satisfied with the care they received. They said staff were very friendly and helpful. They had no complaints at all and were more than satisfied with the service.

The service reviewed each person's care documentation on a regular basis. They spoke to the person and their family to make sure the service provided was of a good standard, and was meeting the specific needs of the individual.

People who used the service were supported by friendly, professional staff.
