During a routine inspection

We spoke with four people who used the service and one relative. People told us that they felt well treated and cared for by the provider. One person told us, 'he heard me and he listened to me and he had respect for me". Another person told us, 'I don't dread going and I would do if I did not like the doctor. He listens to what the problem is he is a very clear communicator'.

We saw that people's needs were assessed and care and treatment planned in a way that was effective and met their needs.

People received care and treatment from a psychiatrist who was suitably qualified and experienced. The work of the psychiatrist was regularly formally appraised by another physician.

We found that the service had an effective system in place to monitor the treatment people received. People were actively encouraged by the provider to share their views and opinions of the treatment they received.

During a routine inspection

People who used the service expressed their views and were involved in making decisions about their care and treatment. They were sent a copy of letters about their diagnosis and treatment and invited to make comments before the letters were sent. People were encouraged to bring a friend or family member with them to support them during the assessment process. The consultant worked with people to devise a programme of care and treatment that met their needs.

Attention was paid to people's vulnerability to abuse and there were sound processes in place to prevent this happening. The consultant was appropriately qualified and ensured that his treatment methods were up to date by taking part in continued professional development. There was a system in place for monitoring the quality of care and for responding to comments from people who used the service.
