People should be protected from abuse and staff should respect their human rights (outcome 7)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are protected from abuse, or the risk of abuse, and their human rights are respected and upheld.

How this check was done

We reviewed all the information we hold about this provider, carried out a visit on 19/06/2012, looked at records of people who use services, talked to staff and talked to people who use services.

Our judgement

The provider was meeting this standard.

People who use the service were protected from abuse because reasonable steps had been taken to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent it from happening.

User experience

None of the people we spoke with had any concerns, worries or complaints about the care and support being provided by the service. One relative said there had been problems initially but that managers had listened to their concerns and sorted them out.

Other evidence

The registered manager for the service has notified social services and the CQC when concerns or incidents have happened to people receiving the service or to staff. There had been two incidents prior to our visit in 2012 which had both been dealt with appropriately.

During our visit we spoke with four staff employed by the service. They told us they had had safeguarding training and were aware of what to do if they suspected abuse or the risk of abuse. They each gave good examples of how they had dealt with issues that had concerned them. We also looked at the records held by the registered manager and these showed that all staff were up to date with safe guarding training.

Prior to our visit the registered manager informed CQC that she was undertaking repeat criminal records bureau (CRB) checks for all staff transferring from the previous provider to the new provider, Ablewell Ltd. During our visit we asked her about the progress on this and she told us all checks had been undertaken except for one member of staff which was in the process of being completed.
