During an inspection looking at part of the service

We inspected Ablewell Care on this occasion because at our previous inspection we had found them to be non-compliant in relation to two of the regulations which describe the essential standards of quality and safety that people who use health and adult social care service have a right to expect.

During this inspection we visited the offices of Ablewell Care, looked at records including on electronic systems, and spoke with the Manager. We found that appropriate action had been taken in relation to those areas we had identified at our last inspection.

During a routine inspection

When we inspected Ablewell Care we spent time at their office base and also visited five people who used the service in their own homes. This allowed us to speak with people who used the service as well as their carers and to observe how care was provided.

We were told that approximately 60 staff (including office-based) are employed providing care to around 150 people mainly in the Macclesfield area. Although the provider advertises services for children we were told than none were currently being cared for. People who use the service are funded either from their own private resources or through the local authority with some intermediate care supported by the NHS.

People who used the service expressed satisfaction with the care they received from the provider. They told us that they were 'very happy' and that the staff were 'very good ' really excellent'. Some people told us that they did not like last minute changes of their regular carers and would like more warning and explanation when this happened.

During a routine inspection

During our visit to the service we spoke with four people provided with care and support by the service and two of their relatives. All said that they were looked after well, treated with dignity and respect and were asked their views on how they would like to be cared for and supported. For example, one person said; 'They treat me how I would like to be treated'. Another said; 'They ask me how I like things to be done. For example, they always ask how I would like my bed made. It's nice to have it made how I like it'. One relative said their family member; 'Is treated properly and with respect'.

All the people we spoke with were happy with the service they received. They also told us care was delivered in line with their care plans, staff were reliable, and kind and caring. For example, one person said; 'They help me with what I need. They are usually on time but will always call me if they are running late'. Another said; 'I am very happy with the standard of care. They make sure everything is done properly'. Another said; 'All the staff are very good. I am very happy with my care and the people who look after me'.
