During a routine inspection

We discussed how best to gather people's views with the service's management. They did not feel that it was appropriate to make direct contact with people who use the service or their relatives in these particular circumstances. Instead we talked to the health professionals who commission care on people's behalf and work very closely with people who use the service. We also gathered people's views by looking at the comments and commendations that people had sent to the service.

Comments made by the relatives of people who had used the service included, 'thanks to you all for the care, respect and kindness, always with a smile', 'we will never forget the amazing support and care that you gave', 'their help was over and above the call of duty' and 'I would really like to thank the girls and praise them most highly for their professionalism'.

Comments made by health professionals who work closely with the service included, 'They involve patients, family and carers in their care planning', 'I have always found their staff to be both competent and professional', 'Herriot Homecare are excellent at their job' and 'I have found all their staff to be very respectful and dignified in the way they assist both the patients and their families'.

Staff told us that the felt well supported by the service and were provided with the training they needed to help them do their jobs well. Comments made by staff included ''I feel very well supported' and 'they are very good'.
