During a routine inspection

People told us they gave their consent to the agency before they received care and treatment. One person we spoke with told us their care workers "ask me before they do anything."

People we spoke with told us they received good care. One person told us "my carer comes every day and does a good job." Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. There were risk assessments on file. Risk assessments we viewed included moving and handling, the environment in people's homes, appliances and lone working for care workers.

People's health, safety and welfare was protected when more than one provider was involved in their care and treatment, or when they moved between different services. This was because the provider worked in co-operation with others. The manager told us the service would work with the local authority and health professionals to ensure people received the care that met their individual needs.

Appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work. The manager told us before staff started working with the agency they conducted a criminal record check to ensure people were not barred from working with vulnerable adults.

People we spoke with told us they knew how to make a complaint if they needed to. People told us they had no complaints about the service they received.

During a themed inspection looking at Domiciliary Care Services

We carried out a themed inspection looking at domiciliary care services. We asked people to tell us what it was like to receive services from this home care agency as part of a targeted inspection programme of domiciliary care agencies with particular regard to how people's dignity was upheld and how they can make choices about their care. The inspection team was led by a CQC inspector joined by an "Expert by Experience", a person who has experience of using services and who can provide that perspective.

We used telephone interviews and home visits to people who use the service and to their main carers to gain views about the service. We visited four people in their home and spoke with 12 people who received a service from this agency over the telephone. Everyone spoke positively about their care workers and felt that they fully supported their care needs.

Most of the people we spoke with told us they were treated in a dignified and respectful manner by the staff who provided their care. One person told us they were 'called by the name I want to be.' One person's relative told us they had 'built up a rapport' with the care staff.

Most of the people we spoke with felt that staff were well trained to provide for their needs.
