All Inspections

During a routine inspection

We visited White Lodge and looked at the care and welfare of people who used the service. During the inspection process we spoke with one person who used the service, two relatives and four members of staff. This is a small agency which at the time of our visit provided care to nine people. We attempted to contact six people and only three were available to talk to us.

All of the people we spoke with were happy with the service. A relative told us 'The quality of the service is much better than our previous agency.'

The provider had systems in place to ensure they worked with the consent of people who used the service. A person who used the service told us 'They always ask me before they do anything.'

Care and support was planned and delivered in a way that ensured people's safety and welfare. A relative told us 'The staff are helpful.'

The provider had systems in place to manage and monitor the prevention and control of infection. Staff understood their responsibilities around infection control.

We saw that a recruitment process had been followed. This ensured that people's needs were met by staff that were appropriately qualified and experienced.

The provider had systems in place for assessing and monitoring the quality of the service.

At the time of our visit there was no registered manager in place. The provider also informed us that they had temporarily suspended providing accommodation for persons who required personal care.

During a routine inspection

The people who used the service had complex needs. Many had significant communication and learning difficulties. This meant we had to communicate with the families of the people who used the service. We asked the agency to provide us with their contact details. We were able to carry out telephone interviews with four family members.

One parent said the family member was 'enabled,' another family member said she was "very happy with the service.' One family member said the service was "not that good and not that bad."

The family members we spoke to all confirmed they felt safe in the hands of the care workers. We found that people's privacy and dignity were supported.

People who used the service received care and support from staff who were competent to carry out their roles. People were protected from abuse as a result of the measures that were in place. The provider had systems in place to assess and monitor the quality of care provided.
