The service should have quality checking systems to manage risks and assure the health, welfare and safety of people who receive care (outcome 16)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Benefit from safe quality care, treatment and support, due to effective decision making and the management of risks to their health, welfare and safety.

How this check was done

We reviewed information given to us by the provider.

Our judgement

The provider had an effective system in place to identify, assess and manage risks to the health, safety and welfare of people who use the service and others.

Reasons for our judgement

The systems in place to identify, assess and manage risks relating to the moving and handling of equipment had improved. A detailed risk assessment of the moving handling risks associated with loading and unloading mobile equipment from the transport vehicle was completed. This included an assessment of the load which needed to be moved. It also included written moving and handling procedures about how to move and transfer the various pieces of equipment by the safest method. The system also included an assessment of staff competence to do so. The revised systems in place complied with the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1999 (as amended 2002). This meant risks for staff were reduced.
