During a routine inspection

There were three people using the service and we met and spoke with all of them. People said that they were happy with the service. They said that there was enough skilled and experienced staff to meet their needs.

Staff were supported and supervised and given the training they needed to provide a good quality service. Records were available and organised as well as accurate and up to date. This meant that people were protected from the risks of unsafe or inappropriate care and treatment.

People told us about various activities they took part including college courses. People were encouraged to be involved in the running of the service including taking part in the cooking and cleaning. People told us that they enjoyed taking part in the menu planning, food shopping and cooking. People maintained good health as the service worked closely with health and social care professionals.

The home was clean and hygienic which reduced the risks of infections.

We made an unannounced visit to the service and spoke to people who use the service, the manager and to staff members. There were three people using the service. Two people were away on holiday so we met and spoke to one person who said that they were happy living at Shakespeare House.

People could talk about any problems to the manager and to the staff who would listen and act. People said '(The manager) sorts things out for us'.

People had jobs and opportunities for life long learning. People told us that they enjoyed their college courses and other community based activities like swimming. People told us that they were looking forward to their holiday next month and that two people were on holiday that week.

The dining area and kitchen were accessible and comfortable and people cooked for themselves and each other. People were fully involved in the running of the home and told us that they too part in the food shopping and housework.
