During a routine inspection

We visited the home unannounced and met two of the people who lived there as well as the two staff on duty. After our visit we spoke with the relative of one person who lived at the home. The manager was not present but the team leader, who had worked at the home for many years, was. The home now had a new manager, Helen Smith, who also oversaw two other homes run by the organisation. We saw the day-to-day running of the home being undertaken effectively by the team leader with the support of other experienced staff.

The two people we saw in the home appeared very comfortable and relaxed. The staff had worked there for many years. They showed a very good knowledge of people's health and social needs and how to meet them. The relative we spoke with was very complementary about the home. They told us it was, 'A very good home with good staff.'

We saw people who lived at the home had very different needs and these were met in individual ways by staff with whom the people there were ar ease.

We saw medicines were administered safely, people were safeguarded from abuse, and the home monitored the quality of the service it provided.

We noted the notice board in the dining room did not fit in with the homely and comfortable surroundings of the home. Staff agreed they would improve or replace it.

During a routine inspection

All three people living at the home were present when we visited. A staff meeting was taking place, with five staff present. The manager was also there. The three people who lived at the home each had very different support needs. They were supported in individual ways that reflect those needs. All three residents were women. Staff told us that the three women had lived at the home for over ten years. The staff had all worked at the home for a number of years. Staff showed a good knowledge of the residents and their different support needs.

Residents were comfortable and relaxed. They all had very different needs, and were supported in ways that reflected and enhanced their individuality.

Our observations, along with discussion with staff and residents, showed us that the people living at the home benefited from living in a stable and familiar environment. People's highly individual needs were supported in individual ways that suited them.
