All Inspections

During a routine inspection

We spent time at the agency's office, reviewing records and speaking with staff based at the office, one member of care staff and the management team. We spoke with six people who received personal care from the agency and a further four care staff members by telephone following our inspection.

People were mostly positive about the service they received from the agency, and told us that they were, 'Generally happy with Helping Hands.'

Records showed that all staff had received training in how to protect people from abuse or neglect. Staff were able to explain how they would identify signs of abuse, and knew how to report any concerns.

There were effective recruitment and selection processes in place. New staff had spent time working alongside a more experienced staff member before they worked on their own.

There was evidence of an effective system for checking that the care provided to people met their assessed needs. The registered manager acknowledged that improvements to the planning and scheduling of staff rotas needed to be made. This would provide people with continuity of care and support.
