All Inspections

During a routine inspection

People told us that they were able to make choices and decisions regarding their care and were treated with dignity and respect. One person told us, "Staff are always polite and I am treated with the utmost respect.'

People told us that the care they received was of a good standard and that in the main staff arrived on time. One person felt frustrated that staff were sometimes later, but went on to say they knew delays happened, which were out of the staff's control.

The agency had clear systems in place for supporting people with medication and staff were trained in the safe handling of medicines. People told us their medication was well organised, usually in a blister pack, and that staff from the agency reminded them to take their medication when it was due.

All staff told us that they thought morale was high. Staff also said, "The manager is very approachable and works hard to make sure staff and clients are happy." The agency had robust systems in place to recruit staff properly, making sure staff were suitable to work with people in their own homes by carrying out pre employment checks.

There was an effective complaints system available. Comments and complaints people made were responded to appropriately. People told us they would have no hesitation in raising complaints with the manager or any of the agency staff.

During a themed inspection looking at Domiciliary Care Services

We carried out a themed inspection looking at domiciliary care services. We asked people to tell us what it was like to receive services from this home care agency as part of a targeted inspection programme of domiciliary care agencies with particular regard to how people's dignity was upheld and how they can make choices about their care. The inspection team was led by a CQC inspector joined by an 'expert by experience', people who have experience of using services and who can provide that perspective.

We used telephone interviews and home visits to people who use the service and to their main carers (a relative or friend) to gain views about the service. We spoke to seven people in total, three relatives, four members of staff (including the manager) and carried out three home visits.

People who used the service were given appropriate information and support regarding their care or treatment. People told us they had been involved in planning their support care package and this had been arranged to coincide with other support they might have, for example from families or neighbours. The agency was described as 'very good', one person told us, that the staff from the agency were a 'good bunch of people and that had it not been for their involvement they would have not been able to live at home.' All the people we talked with were happy with staff from the agency.

People's needs were assessed and their care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual wishes. One person told us their care worker 'was kind and caring.' Another person told us; 'I am quite happy with it all as long as they don't 'take over'. Which they hadn't done yet, I am given alternatives and choices."

People we spoke with said that they were asked for their views about the care and treatment provided and their feedback was listened to and acted upon.

During an inspection in response to concerns

People told us they were happy with the staff that provided care for them in their homes. One person said "All the carers have been very good" and another said "They look after me very well." People also told us that staff turn up when they are expected to. They said if they were late for any reason, then it was only by a few minutes which didn't cause them any problems.
