During a routine inspection

People were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes. We spoke with five people who used the service or their relatives and they all told us they had agreed to the care recorded in their care plan. One person said 'I can always tell them if I need anything different.'

People felt that carers understood their needs and were complimentary about both the service being provided and the people providing it. One person told us 'I'm really really happy, I can't fault them in anything.'

Staff told us that they felt supported by the registered manager. We saw records that supervision meetings were carried out every two months. All the staff we spoke with had received a supervision meeting during the last eight weeks.

Quality monitoring checks were carried out on a monthly basis by a member of senior management. The last review showed that a number of areas had been checked such as care plans, supervision meetings, training, health and safety and the complaints log. Any actions had been identified and allocated with a due date.

During a routine inspection

We spoke by telephone with two people who received care. We spoke with four staff which included the manager, deputy, and two care workers. The two people who received care told us that they were very pleased with the service provided. They told us that staff were very polite, patient, accommodating and courteous and maintained their privacy and dignity. They told us that their home was respected and they felt safe with the carers.

We were told by people receiving care that they had a care plan and were involved in planning their care with the staff. They told us the care provided was excellent and one said 'you could not get better.' We were told staff were very supportive over any issues relating to their health and well being or practical issues. One told us 'you phone the manager, who puts you at ease and sorts anything.' We found that people were cared for by staff that were appropriately trained, supervised and appraised and regular 'spot checks' were in place on the quality of care provided by staff.

We had moderate concerns with how the service assessed and monitored the quality of the service provision.
