During a routine inspection

People told us they were satisfied with the care and support provided by Pride Community Care. We spoke with three people using the service. They told us, 'I am happy with everything', 'I am getting looked after, we get along smashing' and 'I'm doing okay with Pride, I'm much better now'.

People were being involved as far as possible in planning and consenting to their care and support and were enabled to make decisions about matters which affected them.

People told us the support they received was good and that they had care plans describing how their support should be provided. We found some improvements could be made in the information gathered about peoples' needs and choices, and in risk assessments. This would help ensure people were treated as individuals and supported safely.

We found arrangements were in place to safely support people with their medicines. However we found, clearer records needed to be kept to confirm the actual support provided.

People told us they liked the staff who provided their support. We found the staffing arrangements ensured people received good care and support.

There were systems in place to help support people to make complaints and raise concerns.

During a themed inspection looking at Domiciliary Care Services

We spoke to four people using the service. They all told us the staff at Pride Community Care treated them with respect and upheld their dignity. One person said, "They (the support workers) always treat me properly". Another said, "They are all really nice".

People we spoke with felt they had choices in what, and how support was provided. People felt they had a choice in which support worker they had and whether or not they were male or female. They also told us they had been involved in the setting up of the service. One person said, "We can do anything we want", and another said, "Pride, and my care coordinator helped me find somewhere to live and helped me sort out what I needed".

All the people using the service we spoke with said Pride Community Care met their needs. They were satisfied with the service and said the service was reliable. People felt there was good continuity of support with the same support workers working with them. One person said, "They (the support workers) are a lovely bunch; all friendly and helpful". Another said, "I am doing really well and get on fantastic with the support workers". Someone else said, "I have a small group of support workers that more or less stays the same; I couldn't manage without them".

People with whom we spoke all said they had no concerns about the support workers conduct or poor practice. They had sufficient knowledge about what to do if they had any concerns or felt they were not being treated properly. Some gave examples of how they had sorted other issues out with senior staff, such as if they did not 'get on' with a particular support worker and wanted to change.

Staff we spoke with were experienced and enthusiastic about their work. They understood the importance of respecting people and encouraging them to live independent lives in the community.
