During a routine inspection

People were very complimentary about the care they received at Ridgeway House care home.

One person described how they were able to visit the home first to help them decide if it was the right place for them. They said 'I could visit and come for lunch so I could get used to the people.'

People told us that they were given information about what was happening in the home in residents meetings. One person said 'Coreana (the manager) is lovely. She often comes and asks if I am alright and if I need anything.'

Everyone without exception told us that the staff treated them with respect, respecting their privacy and right to make choices. One person explained how they liked to have a bacon or warm soft egg sandwich in bed in the mornings and how staff provided this for them. Another person said 'we can get up and go to bed when we like'.

We watched how the staff supported the people in their care. We saw people were treated with dignity and respect. For example, when staff talked with people they made sure that they got down to their eye level. When people were supported to walk, they were not rushed but supported to move at a pace comfortable for them. We heard staff address people respectfully, speaking quietly about private matters.

People explained to us how their care and welfare needs were met. One person said 'the physio has been to visit me today. I have a big pressure cushion I sit on and a nice special high low bed.'

People said they were confident about making a complaint if they were unhappy. One person said 'I would definitely speak out if anything was wrong.'
