Overview

Inspection carried out on 21 January 2013

During a routine inspection

We observed a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in the home, with staff and people living in the home engaged in conversations.

One person told us: I was meant to go out today, but it was cold so I have stayed in where it is warm. I got to choose my own carpet and I get my meals made and help with my washing.

All care records we looked included detailed, individualised care plans and risk assessment. Those individuals who had the capacity to consent had contributed to the plans and signed these documents.

One parent told us: I do things in partnership with IAS, we work together, I now have a very good relationship with the managers. If I have a problem I can discuss it openly and they try to resolve things.

Other parents told us: Staff have the skills to support X with their behavioural difficulties and follow the guidance confidently. I am happy to raise any concerns I have at review meetings, or I can pick up the phone anytime. I can say what I think."

We found during this inspection that people who use the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

We found staffing levels across the organisations to be satisfactory and in line with the hours of care IAS had been commissioned to provide.
