During an inspection looking at part of the service

The practice is for private patients only. There is one dentist that works at the practice for two days a week on a Thursday and Friday. However the dentist will see patients on any other day and in the evenings for emergencies.

Although the practice is operational on a part time basis, there is a central booking line that puts patients through to a call centre to make an appointment. The appointments are then filled out electronically for the practice to see. This system also works for emergency appointments. In these cases an alert is sent to the practice to inform of the emergency appointment.

On 19 March 2013 we inspected the practice and issued two warning notices, one involving safeguarding and another regarding infection control. We found that appropriate steps had been taken to address the issues raised.

At the time of our inspection no people were present for appointments.

19 March 2013

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We found that on a previous visit the service on 5 November 2012 the provider was not meeting two of the essential standards. These were, safeguarding people who use services from abuse and cleanliness and infection control. The provider was asked to submit an action plan detailing when the practice had achieved compliance wit these two standards.

The Care Quality Commission received an action plan from the provider on the 27 February 2013 informing us that staff had received the safeguarding training and meetings were being held once a month to discuss staff training and clinical audits. The provider confirmed that a safeguarding process was in place. The provider confirmed that infection control audits were in place and infection control processes were being adhered to. The action plan submitted by the provider also confirmed that the second sink had a separate water supply and was filled and emptied separately. We found that the action plan had not been implemented in practice and the provider was still not meeting the essential standards

5 November 2012

During a routine inspection

People told us they had been coming to this practice for many years and were generally happy with the standard of care they receieved. The practice is for private patients only. There is just one dentist at the practice he is the primary dentist and works here two days a week Thursday and Friday only. However he will see people on other days in the evening if they have an emergency.

Although the practice is operational on a part time basis only. there is a newly employed receptionist/dental nurse who works at the practice Monday - Friday and can book appointments if required.

The practice does not display any information leaflets for patients, there is no price list on display and the information on the door regarding the surgery opening times was out of date and no longer relvant.
