During a routine inspection

People that we spoke with told us that they were treated with dignity and respect, that their independence was encouraged and that they were spoken to in a respectful way. We spoke with a relative and they said "Quality of care is absolutely excellent" and that they were involved in making decisions about their relative's care and treatment. One relative said "I attend regular reviews and they are good".

People we spoke with said "Very happy indeed with our support, staff are so genuine and nice" and "Staff help us to get out and about" and "Staff are friendly and respectful".

We saw that people had consent forms in place and that people and their relatives were involved in reviews and the decision making process.

Staff training records that we looked at showed us that there were enough qualified and skilled staff to meet the needs of people that use the service. We saw that staff had attended all of the required mandatory training as well as brain injury training.

We saw that the agency managed complaints well and that there were detailed investigation and correspondence records in place. We also saw that the agency had received a variety of compliments.

Records that we looked at, discussions with the manager, staff and a social worker showed us that the agency worked alongside professionals to ensure that the care and welfare of people that use the service were met.

During a routine inspection

Headway Dorset is a domiciliary care agency that provides support to people throughout Dorset who have suffered head injuries.

At this inspection we spoke with the manager, the domiciliary care co-ordinator, three care workers and four people who used the services of Headway Dorset.

People's privacy dignity and independence were respected. Their views and experiences were taken into account in the way the service was provided and delivered in relation to their care.

We found that care plans accurately reflected people's needs and had been drawn up with their involvement. People expressed satisfaction with the care they received and told us the care workers were 'Excellent' and 'Very kind, caring and gentle'.

People using the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

People were recruited by care workers that had been recruited in a safe manner and were appropriately qualified to carry out their role.

Records we looked at were accurate, up to date and were easily accessible to us during our visit.
