During a routine inspection

During our SOFI observation we found that staff had positive interactions with people, they spoke patiently and kindly whilst offering choices and involving people.

We spoke with four people that were using the service. People had different opinions about the service. They told us, "This is generally a friendly place," "I feel calm and relaxed here and don't want to go home," and "The care and unit could be better."

We spoke with four relatives and they all confirmed that they were satisfied with the care and support provided. They told us, "The staff are very good with my family member. They are also polite and respectful" and "My family member always looks well looked after and well groomed. I have no complaints."

Records checked showed that before people received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the staff acted in accordance with their wishes.

We found that care and support was offered appropriately to people.

Our conversations with people, relatives and staff, together with observations on the day of our inspection evidenced that there were enough staff on duty and staff working in the home were appropriately qualified to do their jobs.

The provider had an appropriate system in place for gathering and evaluating information about the quality of care the service provided.

We found that records were held securely and retained for an appropriate period of time.

During a routine inspection

People that we could communicate with told us that they were happy and that they were satisfied with the care and support they received. They told us, 'it is very good here. I can't fault it."

We found that people's care and welfare needs were assessed and each person had a written plan of care that set out their identified needs and the actions required of staff to meet these.

We found that suitable arrangements were in place to ensure people were safeguarded against the risk of abuse and their rights were upheld. Staff had received training on safeguarding people so that they were aware of the actions to take if they suspected abuse, or if an allegation was made.

We found that sufficient numbers of staff were provided to meet people's needs. A multi-disciplinary team of different professionals was provided to people so that all aspects of their care and rehabilitation could be considered and addressed. Staff were provided with training at appropriate intervals to ensure their skills were maintained and up to date.

We found that procedures were in place to audit and monitor systems within the home.
