All Inspections

During a routine inspection

We telephoned the agency 24 hours prior to our visit to inform them we would be inspecting. This is part of the inspection process for domiciliary care agencies. During our visit we spoke with two people who used the service, three relatives, five members of staff and the registered manager. We also reviewed other information relevant to the outcomes inspected.

People or their relatives told us that they were involved in the assessment and care planning process and the provider acted quickly to respond to any changes in their needs. They also told us that they received the care as detailed in their plan of care.

People said they were very satisfied with the quality of their care and support and with the staff team. One person told us 'They are wonderful and receiving care from them has been such a good experience'. We noted a recent comment from a relative who wrote 'The service has excelled our expectation. The staff are compassionate, caring, cheerful, friendly, patient and punctual'.

We looked at the medication systems and found that people were supported to receive their medicines safely and as prescribed.

We looked at the recruitment and selection processes and found them to be effective and saw that people were supported by staff who were caring, competent and well trained.

Systems were in place to monitor the quality of the service. Feed back was sought from people who used the service and staff and the provider was responsive when issues were raised.

During a routine inspection

During our visit to Brooker Care Ltd we were able to speak to people using the service, one of their relatives and staff, in addition to reviewing documentation relevant to the outcomes inspected. The information collected from these different mechanisms, when combined with our observation of the care and support provided, enabled us to conclude that the services provided both respected and involved the people who were using them.

At Brooker Care we found a programme of care that clearly supported individual's (or others acting on their behalf) with their needs both within and outside their home environment. This care programme ensured that people who used the service were protected from the risk of abuse.

All the evidence collected about staffing demonstrated that there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs and staff were positive about the training they had received and the usefulness of this in their role.

From the evidence collated it was clear that people who used the service were asked for their views about their care and support and they were acted upon. In addition there was a system in place to assess and monitor the quality of the service provided.
