During an inspection looking at part of the service

Since the last inspection, a number of staff members had left employment. This had left one of the original permanent staff members. Staff new to post had not completed the induction as detailed within the agency's Statement of Purpose. This included their attendance at safeguarding training. One very new member of staff was working with vulnerable individuals without the required CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checks or references. There was no information within their personnel file to ascertain what assurances had been taken regarding their suitability to the role they were to undertake.

Since the last inspection, two staff had completed an employee satisfaction survey. This was undertaken in December. The service had stated that these surveys would be completed monthly by all staff. The information within the surveys completed had not been collated. Information within the survey from the staff was positive about the service. Four service user surveys had been completed. These surveys had not been collated or the information within them used in any way to inform service delivery.

During a routine inspection

One relative thought the service was 'quite good '. They recalled getting some leaflets about the service when it first started.

We spoke to a social worker who worked as a care coordinator for some people using the service. The social worker thought, the service engaged well with the team. They had not seen care plans and needs assessments for people using the service.

People that we spoke with that used the service felt safe and were not anxious that they may be at risk.

The registered manager informed us that staff had commenced employment without the necessary checks to assure that the worker is suitable for their role.

One member of staff had been mentored by the Registered Manager at the start of their employment and said, 'I did some workbooks in moving and handling, basic first aid, food hygiene and fire safety but did not do safeguarding'.

Relatives we spoke to were happy that staff would contact them if they needed to.
