People's personal records, including medical records, should be accurate and kept safe and confidential (outcome 21)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Their personal records including medical records are accurate, fit for purpose, held securely and remain confidential.
  • Other records required to be kept to protect their safety and well being are maintained and held securely where required.

How this check was done

Our judgement

Improvements had been made to how people's records were stored, to ensure that only authorised people could access personal and sensitive information.

User experience

We did not speak with people using the service for the purposes of this review.

Other evidence

When we visited the service on 20 December 2011 we had concerns about how personal records were being stored. We set a compliance action for the service to address this. The manager confirmed to us in writing that key pads have been placed on the doors of the nurses' offices to make sure that only authorised people can gain access to personal records. She also told us that improved arrangements have been made to the security of archived records which were being kept in the maintenance building.

We are satisfied that appropriate measures have been taken to protect the security of records and sensitive information.
