All Inspections

19 December 2013

During a routine inspection

During this inspection we visited one person at home and spoke with four people using the service. All were complimentary about the service they received from Praxis Care Bury. One person told that they had a good team of people supporting them including support workers from Praxis Care Bury. They said their whole life had changed during their recovery. They had been supported to get a suitable tenancy within their local community and were being introduced to new people through activities to increase their skills and improve their health.

People told us support workers had helped them with their health needs and show them ways to lead a healthier lifestyle, for example swimming, going to the gym and eating well. One person said that support from the service had 'cushioned' their recovery and 'I refuse to be unhappy again'. Another person told us the service was 'Very supportive, I don't know how I would manage without them' and 'I can ring them anytime and they will talk to me about things that are worrying me. I have ongoing issues to sort out, they have been fantastic.'

There were effective recruitment procedures in place and enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs.

People using the service were asked for their views and opinion of the service they received. One person commented, 'Praxis got me a safe place to stay, they helped me think more about me. I eat better, I dress better, I play golf, go bowling and go to the pictures'.

During a routine inspection

People told us that they had been told about Praxis Floating Support Team by other services such as the drug and alcohol team, citizen's advice, hospital and voluntary groups they attended. They said that they had been involved in discussion with the staff from the service before arrangements to provide a service were agreed.

We spoke with three people as a group and two people individually who were overall complimentary about the support that they received from the service.

People told us about the assessment process. They said they were asked what five things they would either like to change or achieve in their lives. People gave us examples of what they had told the service such as improving their health, finding somewhere new and safe to live, sorting out their finances and creating opportunities to socialise with other people.

People told that they had received information about what they could expect from the service and they could attend the service user meetings if they wanted to. This gave them an opportunity to both influence the service and meet with other people using the service.

People showed us photographs from a recent Halloween Party and plans for a Christmas Party were in place. A Christmas quiz had been arranged between Christmas and New Year so people could meet up.

People said 'Being referred to Praxis was the best thing that has ever happened to me,' and 'They are very good,' as well as 'They are nice and kind'.
