During an inspection looking at part of the service

This was a focused visit to check if the compliance actions made following our previous visit 7 June 2012 had been addressed. Therefore we did not speak to people using the service at this visit. People that we spoke with at our visit on 7 June 2012 confirmed that they were happy with the support and services provided to them.

A compliance action was left at our last visit which related to staff training. At this the visit majority of staff were up to date in all areas of mandatory training.

A compliance action was left at our last visit. This was because capacity assessments for people were not in place to ensure their safety when they were unable to make an informed decision for themselves, about an aspect of their life.

At this visit capacity assessments were in place, we found that these were generic in style and have asked the acting manager to review them, to ensure they direct staff on how to provide individualised support to people regarding decision making.

During a routine inspection

Not everyone who used the service was able to give us their views of the service due to their level of dementia. We spoke with many of the people using the service and obtained the views of three people regarding the support and services they received.

People living at the home confirmed that staff spoke to them in a respectful way. One person said, 'they're all very polite to me and always knock on my door, they don't just walk in.'

People confirmed that daily routines were flexible and felt that their privacy and dignity was respected.

We spoke with two visitors. They were positive about the staff and thought they did a good job.

One visitor confirmed they were involved in the reviews of their relatives care and told us, 'I think the staff here do a very good job. They are very patient with my relative and I'm confident that they look after them well. We haven't had any problems.'

People using the service told us they were happy with the care and support they received from the staff. One person said, 'the staff here are very nice. There are things to do if you want to join in.'
