During a routine inspection

People told us they were happy and content living at Shevington Court. Comments included; "the overall standard of care is good and staff treat us with respect" and "staff always ask us what we want and when we want it, they are kind and respectful at all times."

The home had in place person centred planning and approaches which reflected the individual needs of the people they supported. People said that wherever possible they were able to live a life of their choice.

People were provided with a choice of suitable and nutritious food and drink. We saw that there was a rota of menus and that these were amended according to the preferences of the people who used the service.

Staff received training and support to enable them to provide safe, needs led care to the people who lived in Shevington Court.

The home had systems in place to monitor and review the standards of care provided.

During a routine inspection

During the inspection we spent time with two people and invited them to share with us their views and experience of living at Shevington Court.

People told us staff were respectful of their wishes and choices. One person said, 'It is brilliant here, I love it.' Another person said, 'The food is great, we had meatballs tonight; If we don't like that though the chef gives us a couple of choices.' We heard the staff described as kind and caring.

People told us they had everything they need at Shevington Court including regular activities and trips out. One person said, 'There is a lovely atmosphere here and plenty to do.'

Care records informed us that assessments and care plans had been developed for each person and these were reviewed on a regular basis. People confirmed they were involved in decisions about their care.

Arrangements were in place for ensuring the environment was clean. Complaints were managed in a timely and efficient way. Effective processes were in place to ensure sufficient staff were available to support people at all times and that the staff had the appropriate training.

The home had a programme of refurbishment and some of the work had been completed. There was still evidence that further improvements could be made to maintain the quality of the environment.
