During an inspection in response to concerns

Some of the people using the service had complex needs which meant they were unable to tell us their views because of this we used a number of different methods to help us understand their experiences.

We spoke with one person who told us they thought the staff were 'fantastic' and that they cared for them and kept them safe and comfortable, they then blew a kiss to describe their care.

We spoke with two sets of relatives. The first one said that they were pleased with their relatives care and thought that things had improved since the new manager had started. The other said that they had no complaints, there were regular reviews of their relatives care and they were impressed with the staff.

We observed care and found that people were treated with dignity and sensitively. Care and treatment provided supported their needs.

The care home was suitably designed and adequately maintained. People were cared for by staff who were trained and supported to an appropriate standard. The provider also had systems in place to manage risks to the health, safety and welfare of people using the service.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

Some of the people using the service had complex needs which meant they were unable to tell us their views; because of this we used a number of different methods to help us understand their experiences.

We spoke with five visitors to the home during the course of the inspection. They all had very positive comments about the care their family members and friends received. They told us "The care is very good, if I was worried about anything I would have moved her out" and "The care has been excellent".

One relative told us their family member had only been at the home a short time but they had seen a huge improvement in her mental and physical health since their admission and there were "delighted with the results".

We saw staff were positive and polite in their interactions with people and of the four staff spoken to, they knew the needs of the people they were looking after well. For example one member of staff was explaining how someone needed certain prompts and guidance to feed herself at mealtimes, this was done to try and maintain her independence.

During a routine inspection

The manager who was present during the inspection was new in post. This was their first week working at the home. We were not able to speak to all of the people using this service due to individual abilities to understand and communicate. Because of this we spent time observing care, spoke with relatives and looked at complaints and surveys that had been completed. Where we did speak with people, the majority of comments made were very positive about the home and the staff that worked there.
