All Inspections

During a routine inspection

Astley Grange provided a range of information for people who used the service and their relatives or carers. We found various leaflets about the provider and the home within the reception area. A range of information was displayed which included: photographs and designations of staff, menus provided, training undertaken by staff and dignity in care information.

Care plans were detailed and reviewed on a monthly basis. Life histories were in place and care plans were formulated taking account of individual preferences, likes and dislikes. This meant care plans were person centred.

We spoke with relatives of two people who were visiting at the time of the inspection. They expressed satisfaction with the care and treatment their relatives received in the home. One person said: "I personally wanted my X to go to another home but X is very happy here and the staff are very good". Another said: "My X has not been here long but so far I have no complaints".

We sampled six staff files and found there were effective and safe systems in place when recruiting and employing staff. Files contained all relevant personal information and identity checks.

Information was available for people who used the service or their families on how to make any complaints or suggestions. We spoke with two people who used the service who said: "I have no complaints at all, I am looked after very well" and "I would speak to the manager but up to know I have nothing to complain about".

During a routine inspection

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people using the service, because some people using the service had complex needs which meant they were not able to tell us their experiences. We spoke to the relatives of two people, who told us:

'Staff here are very kind and are always helpful'.

'I feel that the staff here communicate with us very well. I visit a lot and I always find the staff know exactly what's going on with my X '.

'I am well looked after. They are very kind and I am happy here'.

'I have been impressed with the care my X has received here'.

'I am looked after very well, they are all marvellous'.

'Everyone is very kind. I do receive good care: I have no complaints'.
