People should be protected from abuse and staff should respect their human rights (outcome 7)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are protected from abuse, or the risk of abuse, and their human rights are respected and upheld.

How this check was done

We looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, carried out a visit on 12 November 2012, talked with people who use the service and talked with carers and / or family members. We talked with staff.

Our judgement

People who use the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

Reasons for our judgement

We looked at the staff training records and saw that all the staff had been trained in safeguarding vulnerable adults from abuse, and that this training was repeated annually. We spoke with staff who were able to demonstrate through discussion their awareness of the different types of abuse, how to recognise the signs of abuse and what they would do if they suspected that abuse was happening.

We looked at the staff induction booklet which contained information on how to recognise and respond to abuse and neglect and contained details of who to contact to report abuse.

We looked at staff time sheet records for the hours they had worked in the month of August. We compared the total against the associated invoices for that month. We saw that the records and invoices were correct.
