During a routine inspection

We spoke with 10 people and three relatives for their views about the service. All the people we spoke with told us that they felt involved in planning their care packages. For example, one person said, 'I discussed my care with the agency manager and signed a copy of my plan.'

People had many positive comments to make about the care they received. Their comments included, 'I'm very pleased with the service' and 'they are very helpful and always ask if there's anything they can do'.

The agency had appropriate arrangements in place to support people with their medication if they needed this. One person said, 'I get all the help I need with my medicines.'

The agency had a good system for managing the training needs of care staff. This meant staff received all the required training before they started work and there was refresher training provided when this was needed.

The provider had a clear system for checking the quality and safety of the service, and this included asking people for their views.

During a routine inspection

People who used the service were positive in their comments about the staff from Heritage Healthcare. We spoke with three people during the course of the visit who lived in separate properties across Darlington and they said:

'I'm very pleased with the service, they are generally on time';

'I have never had many problems and I can ring them if there is an issue' and

'They are brilliant; I get on well with them all'.

We found policies and procedures were available in the office. Staff working in people's homes told us where they could locate them. We looked at staff recruitment and found that the organisation had a policy and procedures in place for making sure there were checks carried out on people applying to work at the service. We also saw the provider had a system in place for checking on the quality of the service it provided which included talking to people who used the service and commissioned it.
