During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

We found that the provider had improved their recruitment practices to include obtaining references and a full employment history for new staff. These checks were to ensure that no person was employed unless that person was of good character and had the qualifications, skills and experience which were necessary for the work to be performed.

25 March 2013

During a routine inspection

During our visit to the service on 25 March 2013 we were unable to talk with anyone using the service because most of the scans that day were being undertaken at a remote location. However we were provided with a variety of written comments that had been received as part of satisfaction questionnaires. For example one person had commented about the ultrasound practitioner, 'She was very friendly and informative and made me feel at ease.' Another person wrote, 'Extremely helpful, friendly and polite. These comments confirmed people felt they were respected and involved in their care.

We also found that people had been given appropriate information about the procedure they were to have and that prior to any procedure their consent had been sought.

A tour of the building indicated that the premises were clean and tidy throughout. The service had robust infection control processes to ensure peoples safety.

The service had five staff employed. We found that some of the pre-employment checks that should have been undertaken had not been done. This was because the providers knew the staff they recruited and had worked with them in the past.

An appropriate complaints system was in place that clearly showed that people were given the opportunity to complain if they were unhappy with the service and could expect their complaint to be dealt with in a timely fashion.
