All Inspections

6 August 2013

During a routine inspection

At the time of our inspection the service was providing support for eight children, young people and their parents. The children and young people had special communication needs and so could not easily tell us their views about the service. We spoke with three parents and with one of the social workers who had commissioned the support being provided. Everyone we spoke with gave us positive feedback about the service. A parent said, 'I'm very impressed with our support worker who has a lovely manner with my child and who helps me with different parts of the special care they need.'

We saw that parents had been given accurate information about the fees that were being paid on their behalf. Records showed that the local authorities concerned had been correctly charged for the support services they had commissioned.

Parents said that staff consulted with them about how they wanted to be supported to care for their children and young people. They also said that they received all of the support they expected to have.

Documents showed that there was a clear procedure for staff to follow when supporting parents to manage medication so that it was done safely.

Records showed that robust recruitment and selection checks had been completed on staff to help ensure that children and young people were safeguarded from abuse.

We saw that quality checks were completed to help ensure that children, young people and parents consistently received a good standard of service.

1 March 2013

During a routine inspection

During our inspection on 01 March 2013 we spoke with parents who told us they were very satisfied with the care and support that their child received. One parent said, 'The carers are kind and cheerful and are really good'. Parents told us that they were able to discuss any changes to their child's plan of care and felt that their views were listened to. We saw a sample of care plans which showed that each child's likes, dislikes and interests were taken into account to indicate how they would like their care and support to be provided. .

There were safeguarding procedures in place to protect children from harm. Staff had received safeguarding training and they were clear about their responsibility in reporting any incidents or allegations of abuse.

There were induction programmes in place for new staff and mandatory training was provided to ensure that staff were competent to provide appropriate care. Care staff had been regularly supervised and their work performance and development needs had been monitored.

Complaints were responded to appropriately and parents of children who were receiving support told us that they knew who to contact if they had any concerns about the care being provided.

12 December 2011

During a routine inspection

We spoke with one family who use the service as part of the compliance review on the 7 December 2011. More people who use the service provided were spoken with as part of the previous compliance review that we carried out in July 2011. People we spoke with told us that it was a good service and advised that the carers were like additional members of their family. They stated they were given information about the service and were regularly consulted to ensure they were happy with the services provided and that it met the needs of the person using the service and their family.
