Inspection carried out on 22 January 2013

During a routine inspection

People who used the service we spoke with referred to themselves as patients. Therefore in this report we will use the same terminology.

We spent time on the ward and talked to five patients who were receiving treatment on the ward. They were all positive about the care they had received. Comments made included You could not fault the place, its like being with family, staff are lovely and treat us with respect at all times, they are lovely to me here and treat everybody as an individual at all times and the staff are so very good, so patient and I have received excellent treatment and they explain everything so well.

One patient told us they were going home on the day of our inspection, but would have been happy to stay. Another said they had felt apprehensive before being admitted but now felt quite happy and relaxed.

Patients told us that the staff always asked for their consent before providing care and treatment. One person said the staff had explained their treatment to them fully and in a way that was clear and understandable.

We observed that medication practices were well managed and carried out in line with the hospitals policies and procedures. This ensured the safety of patients at the hospital.
