All Inspections

20 January 2014

During a routine inspection

At the time of the inspection the ward was closed to admissions and there were no out-patient clinics operating. We did not therefore speak to any patients who were attending an out-patients clinic during our inspection.

We looked at the premises and found the hospital was clean and hygienic in appearance. Maintenance was ongoing during our inspection with repairs to the roof being carried out by the estates management team.

Staff told us they received sufficient training in order to carry out their jobs competently and met with their manager regularly for supervision.

A complaints procedure was in place and information was available about how to make a complaint if required.

People were protected from the risks of unsafe or inappropriate care and treatment because accurate and appropriate records were maintained.

During a routine inspection

People who used the service we spoke with referred to themselves as patients. Therefore in this report we will use the same terminology.

We looked at the premises and found the hospital was clean and hygienic in appearance. Maintenance was ongoing during our inspection with minor repairs being carried out by the estates management team.

We spoke to two patients who were attending an out patients clinic during our inspection. They were both very positive about the care they had received and told us the staff were kind and helpful.

We heard staff explain the planned care and treatment to patient's in a comprehensive way that was clear and understandable. Patients confirmed that they also found this to be the case.

Staff told us they received sufficient training in order to carry out their jobs competently and met with their manager regularly for supervision. However, the records held on individual staff files did not demonstrate this.
