All Inspections

20 January 2014

During a routine inspection

At the time of our visit the provider was supporting approximately 50 older adults to live independently within their own homes.

We spoke with five people who used the service and one close relative. One person said, "The carers are great. I wish I could have more time with them." Another person said, "I have no complaints and I am very satisfied." One relative stated, "The carers turn up when they are supposed to and are very good." No one we spoke with raised any concerns about the service.

We saw that support plans and risk assessments were informative and up to date. Staff we spoke with were aware of their contents, which supported them to deliver appropriate and safe care. Staff recruitment systems were robust and staff were supported to do their jobs properly through appropriate training and supervision.

The provider had a range of quality monitoring systems in place to ensure that care was being delivered appropriately by staff in line with individual care plans, and that people were satisfied with the service they were receiving. There was an effective complaints system available. Comments and complaints people made were responded to appropriately.

During a routine inspection

We found that the service was meeting the personal, emotional and healthcare needs of people who used the service. Care plans had been reviewed and updated within the past six months and risk assessments were in place where a specific risk had been identified.

Families we spoke with told us that they felt that that their relative's privacy and dignity were respected by staff. They told us that staff knew how to communicate with individuals to ensure that they understood their wishes. All four people who used the service told us that they felt able to raise any concerns they had with staff and that they would respond appropriately. Relatives we spoke with also told us that they knew how to complain.

One person told us that "Staff were very friendly, kind and caring and they knew how to care for me."

We saw that staff had been provided with the appropriate training and support to carry out their role effectively and safely. Staff told us that they found both the managers to be supportive and approachable.
