During a routine inspection

People expressed their views and were involved in making decisions about their care and treatment. We spoke with six of the fifteen people who used the service and all six said they were happy with the care they received. One person said 'Every day I get a choice'. Another person said 'I like it here, they don't tell me what to do. That's why I like it here'.

Care and treatment was not planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. This meant that people's safety and welfare was not ensured because care and treatment was not implemented appropriately.

People who used the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

Care workers, nurses and ancillary staff received appropriate professional development. Care workers and the nurse we spoke with felt that they were supported by the provider and had access to both mandatory and specific training and a structured supervision and appraisal programme.

People who used the service, their representatives and staff were asked for their views about their care and treatment and they were acted on. People were not protected from the risk of inappropriate or unsafe care and treatment as the provider did not have a documented risk assessment system in place.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with people three people who used the service. People told us that they were always treated with respect and dignity. They told us that they knew what was in their care plans and were involved in any changes made to them. People told us that they were happy living in the home. People described staff as 'kind, caring, patient and reliable 'People told us that the 'food had improved and that they now have had a choice of meals and that there was plenty of it '.

Relatives of people who lived in the home and visitors told us that people were treated with respect and dignity at all times. They told us that the home offered a good standard of care which they were happy with. They told us that things had improved since the new owners had taken over. People we spoke with told us the owners visited weekly and asked if they had everything they wanted.

We observed that staff treated people with respect and dignity, staff interacted positively with them and ensured their needs were met.
