During a routine inspection

People said they were well cared for. One person said 'Good place to be", another 'I am well cared for.' We saw people enjoying the activities provided. We noted staff respected people's wishes to remain in their rooms or lounge areas whilst activities were taking place. People were treated with dignity and respect. The staff team on duty were polite and respectful when offering care and support to people.

Care plans were generally personalised and provided sufficient guidance for staff to deliver care. Care workers had a good knowledge of people's individual needs, and said communication between shifts was good.

The building was well maintained, clean and tidy. People told us their rooms were kept clean. Systems were in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. All staff received infection control training, and personal protective equipment was provided.

No concerns were raised about the availability of care workers to provide support and assistance as required. Care workers told us they thought staffing levels were sufficient to meet people's needs. They also said they felt well supported through supervision, and were up to date with their training, which equipped them with the skills they needed to care for people.

People were aware of the complaints procedure. One person said 'I know where to complain, if I am not happy.' There was a system in place for recording complaints, and complaints had been responded to appropriately.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with four people who used the service. People told us they were happy with the care and support provided. One person told us 'It's very good, no complaints, the staff help me where required.' Another said 'It's perfect. The staff are good, they really support me.' Another person told us 'It's excellent here, I have no complaints, I am very happy here.'

All four people spoken with told us care workers asked them on a daily basis what support they required from staff. People told us care workers support them to remain as independent as possible. People told us care workers respected their privacy and dignity. They told us care workers knock on bedroom doors prior to entering, and answer the staff call system quickly when people request assistance.

People told us they were offered a choice of meal, and we saw people could also request food which was not on the menu. People told us they enjoyed the meals provided. Three of the four people spoken with told us they choose to have their breakfast in their bedrooms, and go the dining room for other meals.

People who used the service and relatives spoke highly of the activity co-ordinator. People were made aware of the planned four weekly programme as they were given their own copy, and the programme was also displayed in the hallway. We observed people joining in with a range of activities, such as art and crafts, quizzes and looking at reminiscence photographs. One person spoken with told us how much they had enjoyed the recent trip to the town hall. Another person told us the activity co-ordinator visited her most days in her room when she delivered the newspaper.

We asked people what they would do if they were unhappy. People told us they would tell a member of staff and they were confident the issues would be dealt with. People also told us they had not needed to make a complaint whilst living at Mount Pleasant.
