All Inspections

18 February 2014

During a routine inspection

On the day of the inspection we spoke with two members of staff and looked at three treatment records. We telephoned two people who had recently used the service as well as the registered manager who was not available on the day. Staff members told us that there were no treatments planned for the day of the inspection.

People who used the service told us that they were happy with the care they had received. One person told us, 'The care was good.' A member of staff said, 'Dr X is very good.' We saw records to evidence that people received appropriate assessments before treatment was provided. Staff we spoke with had a good understanding of the treatment process and how they needed to support people. This meant that care and treatment was delivered in a way that ensured the safety and welfare of people.

We saw that the treatment room was clean and there were systems in place to protect people from the risk of infection. Staff were able to explain the measures in place to protect people from the risk of infection.

We observed that the provider kept their clinical records at another location. These records were made available to us within a short period of time. The records we viewed were accurate and contained details that ensured people's care and treatment was safe and appropriate.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with two people attending the clinic on the day of our inspection. They told us they were fully involved in their treatment. They told us that they had received information to help them make a decision about whether the treatment was for them.

The people we spoke with confirmed that their expectations had been fully explored with them before they continued with treatment. One person told us, "I have been reminded all the way that I can change my mind at any time, even today when I am here to have the treatment." The second person told us, "The whole process has been about me and what I need. Fantastic."

The treatments provided by the clinic involved the use of a laser. A laser beam can cause injury if not used properly. There were arrangements in place to ensure that the laser equipment and the way that it was used was safe.

All the staff we spoke with who worked with the doctor in the clinic had a good understanding of the treatment process and what needed to happen during any treatment to ensure people's safety. The quality of recording ensured that records about people's treatment were accurate and up to date.
