During a routine inspection

People we spoke with during our inspection told us that they were very happy with the care they had received during their stay, with one person describing the staff as excellent and another saying, 'They are all very kind'. People told us they felt informed and involved in their care and treatment, and that staff treated them with respect and dignity. One person told us of the staff, 'Nothing is too much trouble.' We observed staff involving people in their care, treating them with respect and dignity and ensuring they received appropriate information about their care and treatment.

We found that the provider had not taken steps to address the continued concerns regarding the lack of effective systems in place to identify, assess and manage risks and as a result we have determined to take further action.

During a routine inspection

We found that people's care was planned and delivered according their individual needs. People commented, 'Staff couldn't do enough' [for them] and, 'They're really wonderful'. People also said that staff explained their care and treatment, answered any questions they had and were friendly and helpful. One person said they had been 'treated brilliantly' and another said, 'It has been a refreshing experience as I don't normally like hospitals'.

We also found that previous concerns about co-operating with other bodies had been addressed. Information about patients that were transferred from the Surgicentre to the NHS hospital was also appropriately transferred in patient notes.

People told us they felt safe and said of the staff, 'They're all wonderful and make a fuss of anyone that comes in.' People told us that they felt the staff were competent to care for them and staff reported to us that previous staff shortages had been dealt with. There were sufficient numbers of staff with the appropriate mix of skills to meet people's needs.

The provider has not notified the Care Quality Commission of incidents as required that affect the welfare, health and safety of people using the service without delay so that action can be taken where needed. This is an offence.

During an inspection in response to concerns

Most people we spoke with during our visit to the Lister Surgicentre told us they were very happy with the care they had received and that staff were very kind and helpful. Some people told us of the difficulty they had experienced in trying to contact the service to make appointments, and some had been frustrated in how long they had to wait to come in for their procedure.

People told us that staff came in good time when they needed anything, and that they had been given regular food and drink during their stay. People told us that staff spoke to them respectfully, and maintained their dignity. People told us that staff checked on them regularly after they returned from theatre and that they were offered pain relief tablets when needed.
