All Inspections

18 April 2013

During a routine inspection

During this inspection we toured the premises and met with two student dentists, the registered manager and eight other members of staff. We spoke with seven people who used the service, some by phone and some in the waiting room. We looked at a sample of staff records and were provided with policies used by the provider to give guidance to the staff.

People told us they were pleased with the service. Typical quotes were, 'I found them to be very good' and 'It has been very good for me. No disappointment or being let down.' Two people told us they had needed complex treatment. One of these people said, 'This is the best practice I have found.' Another person whose elderly relative had also attended the service said, 'He wears hearing aids. The students have more time for him. They are wonderful with him, preserving as many teeth as possible. The kindness these young people show is wonderful.'

People understood they had to wait for the start of term. One person said, 'It had to be mutually beneficial for the patient and the student, but you knew where to go for emergency treatment if you needed an appointment during the holiday.'

People were treated by dental students who were supervised by suitably qualified, skilled and experienced dentists. One person who had told us they were pleased with the service they had received said, 'I have had apprentices all my life.' They were happy to be observed and have photos taken of their teeth before and after treatment.
