During a routine inspection

People using the service told us they were provided with useful information about the service. People were involved in the discussions and decisions made about their care and support when they started to receive the service.

People told us they received the care, treatment and support that met their individual needs. People confirmed they were relaxed and comfortable with staff, who were respectful and provided positive support. One relative told us, 'We used to stay when the staff came but now we know they are doing everything they are supposed to do. It's good to be able to trust them.'

The support was provided by skilled staff who knew the needs of people well and what to do to assist them. People said they had no concerns about the service and knew how to raise concerns should they need to. One relative told us, 'We've been asked if there's anything that can be improved upon, but there isn't. We're really happy with the service.' The staff received training to ensure they could meet the individual needs of people using the service.

Quality monitoring systems were in place whereby the quality of the care was reviewed and monitored.

During a routine inspection

This was our first inspection of this agency since it was registered by the Care Quality Commission in September 2011. On the day of this inspection there were 8 people using the service. We spoke by telephone with close relatives of three people. We chose these people to reflect a range of needs and circumstances. We spoke with these people to find out their views on how they, and their relatives, were being supported by the agency. We also spoke with the manager, other members of the management team, two support workers, and we read the care plans of four people. This was to find out more information on the quality of service provided by this agency.

The relatives we spoke with all agreed that their privacy and dignity was respected by the agency's support workers. One person told us, '[Staff] cover [the person] with towels while moving between the bathroom and bedroom.'

All the people had been involved in drawing up their care plans and they felt that their needs were well understood by the agency's support workers. They all confirmed that staff encouraged them to be as independent as possible and told us that staff listened to them and acted on what they said. They confirmed that staff were reliable.

People felt that staff were recruited safely and our observations supported this. People were very positive about the quality of the service they received. One person told us they were, 'really, really pleased'delighted. '
