All Inspections

During a routine inspection

During the inspection, we spoke with four people who used the service, one relative of a person who used the service, three care staff and the manager. The manager had recently started working at the service.

All of the people who used the service had dementia. We therefore spent some time observing the care that they received. We saw that staff treated people with respect and were kind and caring. The people and relative we spoke with were happy with the care that was received. One person said, 'The care is good, I have never had a problem.' Another person said, 'The staff are very nice and kind.' A relative told us, 'I am very happy with the care, I have no issues at all.'

People's individual needs had been assessed. However, the service was not always following the provider's policies and procedures to ensure that risks to people's safety were being managed effectively.

The communal areas of the service were clean. However, some people's bedding and equipment that they used was unclean.

People received their medication when they needed it.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people who used the service. No negative comments were made about the care. An example of the comments made was, "I'm very happy." A person's relative told us that they and their relative were consulted about all areas of care.

We saw that the staff were attentive to the needs of people who used the service. We observed them responding to requests for assistance promptly. We also noted that people's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan.

We saw the records the service maintained in respect of safeguarding notifications. These showed that the service had an effective procedure for sharing concerns with all appropriate agencies.

People were complimentary about the approach of the staff who supported them. One relative said, "staff do an excellent job.......staff always respond with kindness." One person said, "The staff are very helpful, they respond quickly to calls."A relative said, "they are quick to get her to the toilet."

People who use the service, their representatives and staff were asked for their views about their care and treatment. We saw the results from the last satisfaction questionnaires which had been sent to the people using the service, relatives and professionals. The records identified that the provider had taken actions when comments raised concerns. We also saw an action plan produced following a staff training programme in relation to dementia care.
