All Inspections

During a routine inspection

We spoke with four parents of children who use the service and reviewed four children or young people's care plans. We spoke with staff. Parents we spoke with told us that they were asked for their consent to the care and treatment provided. We saw that records of consent were specific and included information about children's rights.

A parent told us "I don't worry with our support worker, they feed our child, are confident in medication and deal with all their needs, they watch, listen and are very careful". We found that care was delivered to meet the needs of the child and to support their families as described in their care plan and needs assessment. A parent said "they (staff) know my child's care plan backwards I couldn't be happier with the service".

We found that children were supported by staff who were appropriately trained and knowledgeable about medication administration. People we spoke to told us they were satisfied with the way medicines were managed.

The provider had procedures in place to ensure that Staff who were recruited were of good character and had the appropriate skills and training to meet the needs of the children they supported. A parent said "they (staff) are wonderful, they are trained and knowledgeable and flexible".

The provider had an effective system in place to assess and monitor the quality of the service provided and this included obtaining and acting on the views and experience of people who use the service.

In this report the name of a registered manager appears who was not in post and not managing the regulatory activities at this location at the time of the inspection. Their name appears because they were still a Registered Manager on our register at the time.

During a routine inspection

The agency had policies and procedures in place that ensured people's needs and wishes were assessed and recorded prior to them receiving care. A relative told us that the organisation worked with their relative in a way that 'put his needs totally first' but that also that the organisation 'understood the needs of the family'.

People's needs and wishes are recorded in a plan of care that is kept under regular review and risks to people's safety are assessed and plans to reduce and monitor risks to both people using the service and staff are in place.

Records showed that the staff team were aware of how and when to report any concerns and that they had received training in safeguarding. The registered manager was looking into updating this training for all his staff.

Staff received ongoing training and supervision which provided them with the skills and knowledge to meet the needs of the people they were supporting.

The Provider had effective systems in place to monitor and assess the quality of the service.
