During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people who used the service. One person said "on the whole it is very good; they do the best they can". People said they got up when they wanted to and went to bed at a time of their choosing. They all said they felt safe in the home and their sleep was not disturbed. People said call bells were answered in a reasonable time period.

We spoke with three relatives of people who we were unable to communicate with. They made positive comments such as "nursing staff keep me well informed".

We spoke with four staff and we were told that personal care is "never rushed" and they had enough time to meet the needs of residents living in the home.

During a routine inspection

During the visit we spoke to four people using the service and two relatives.

People said the home was pleasant and was located in nice surroundings. People said the care they received was good; although, one person said 'you sometimes had to wait a while for staff to respond to call bells'. People said that either they or their relative had been involved in the planning of their care and when reviews of their care had taken place.

People said staff were very good and respectful. People said that if they were unhappy they would talk to staff or the registered manager about their concerns.

Generally people said they liked the food. They said they had two to three meal choices at each meal and staff had consulted with them daily about their preferences for the next day's meals.

One person said 'time goes quickly and she had lots to do'. The other people we spoke to said they could access activities at the home and occasionally trips would be organised which they could choose to attend.

People said their healthcare needs were being met and they could access other healthcare professionals for support, for example: GP, dentist and optician appointments.

People said they had attended residents meetings at the home and they felt their views were heard and acted upon. People said they had been informed of events which were about to happen and feedback had been given on past events. One person said they had discussed how they were going to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

The relatives we spoke to said that they had been happy with the care their relative had received and as a consequence had noticed progress made by said relative. The relatives said if they asked for things to be done they had been. Both relatives said that the relatives meeting they had recently attended had been informative.
