All Inspections

5 November 2013

During a routine inspection

No treatments were taking place on the day of our visit; therefore we did not obtain any direct comments from people using the service.

Information seen on patient files indicated that people only gave their consent to any proposed treatment once they were clear about the options available to them. Once a decision was made, a consent to treatment form was signed.

People's needs were appropriately assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual needs. In the patient file we looked at we saw that appropriate and detailed documentation was in place.

We found that a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness was maintained throughout the premises with daily and weekly checklists in place for general clinic areas and theatre set up and shutdown. All staff had received infection control training.

During our tour of the premises we found all parts to be in an excellent state of repair. Records were in place to indicate that equipment servicing and maintenance checks were being maintained.

During a routine inspection

No treatments were taking place on the day of our visit; therefore we did not obtain any direct comments from people using the service.

We spoke with the registered manager of the service who is also one of the four consultant surgeons specialising in the provision of private medical eye care at the Face & Eye Clinic. Detailed information was available for prospective users of the service in the form of patient's guides to the various forms of eye surgery available and details could also be found on the provider's website.

People's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual needs. In the care record we looked at we saw that appropriate documentation was in place.

Training records seen indicated that staff had received safeguarding training in the last 12 months. We spoke with two members of staff and they were able to describe the different forms of abuse and possible signs that abuse may be occurring.

People's health, safety and welfare were protected when more than one provider was involved in their care and treatments because the provider worked in co-operation with others. This included, nursing staff, support staff, consultant ophthalmic surgeons and general practitioners.

An effective quality assurance process was in place which included monthly audits of processes and procedures. Regular meetings took place between the registered manager of CESP and the registered manager of the Face & Eye.
