All Inspections

5 June 2013

During a routine inspection

During this inspection we also checked if improvement actions from the last inspection carried out in December 2012 had been completed. Some of these matters we needed to check did not necessarily relate to people's views and experiences. Therefore at this visit we did not ask people to comment on all of the outcomes we looked at.

Appropriate checks to ascertain whether relatives could make decisions for people using the service had not been carried out. This meant that people may be at risk of others not acting in their best interest.

People and relatives we spoke with using the service told us,''The service is brilliant, it's the best one I've had and I'd had a few before Heydays'. Another person said,'We are more than happy with Heydays. The staff are fantastic, really caring'.

During our inspection we looked at the personnel records for staff recruited since our last visit. We found some of these checks were not consistent. For some of the people employed references had been obtained from previous employers.

We spoke with the manager about some of the shortfalls we identified in record keeping. They demonstrated that they had identified some areas for development and were able to give us some examples of improvements they were in the process of making in relation to records.

3 December 2012

During a routine inspection

We contacted people who received care from the agency and spoke to family members of people who were being supported by the service. We asked people for their views about the service and the care and support staff provided. The people we spoke to told us they were very happy with the support the agency provided and said the service provided was "Absolutely brilliant" and that staff had "been brilliant." and "understood what was expected of them." People said they had been included in agreeing the care to be provided by the service, had received detailed assessments and had a copy of their care records and good information in the service guide.

Everyone we spoke to told us they felt safe receiving care from the service and that it was "reliable" and also "very friendly." They also confirmed that they knew who was coming to visit them in advance and there was good continuity with regular staff who knew them well. Relatives also told us that they were able to meet staff first and go through what their relative, wanted if they could not do so themselves.

People told us they knew who they could speak to if they had a concern or complaint and said they would be confident raising concerns with the manager of the agency. We were told, and could see, that quality was monitored by the providers and that people were asked for their views.
