During a routine inspection

People we spoke with confirmed they had been given enough information to make an informed decision about their care and treatment. They said they were able to ask questions and gain advice from their consultant about the treatment options available to them. Aftercare information and leaflets were also provided. This ensured that people were well informed.

Care and treatment was provided by skilled professionals who were able to offer people the help and support they required to maintain their visual health and wellbeing. We received the following comments from people: "I have received an excellent service. The staff understand my condition. I had an examination and gained a diagnosis. I was very happy with that." and "I was told in great detail about my treatment. I had no issues. I was perfectly treated from start to finish.'

The systems in place for receiving, recording and storing medication were suitable to help to protect all parties.

Recruitment processes were in place to help to protect people from staff who may not be suitable to work in the care industry. Staff undertook continued professional development to keep their skills up to date.

People we spoke with had no complaints to raise about the service. We saw that there were systems in place to deal with any complaints. A person we spoke with said 'I have no complaints regarding any aspect of my care or treatment If I had I would raise them.'

During a routine inspection

People we spoke with said they had been given enough information to be able to consent to their treatment. One person said 'The staff went through the benefits of my treatment as well as the risks.' We saw that parents consented to their children's treatment and saw that children were involved in this process as appropriate to their age so that all parties felt they were supported.

People we spoke with said that they were informed about the treatments that would help them and had time to consider these options. They said they were happy with the treatment, care and support they received. A person said 'I am happy the consultant found the problem. I am being looked after well. The consultant is coming back to see me to discuss my treatment and I can tell him if everything is alright for me."

We did not ask people who use the service about the equipment that was being used. Instead we talked to the manager and consultant. We observed some of the equipment in the clinic which was currently in use and saw evidence of the maintenance of this equipment.

People we spoke with who used the service told us that there were enough staff for them to gain the help and support they needed in a timely way. We were able to observe this during our visit and saw that this was the case. One person said 'The nurses where there when I wanted them. I did not have to wait.'

During our visit we spoke with four people who said they were very happy with their treatment and the quality of service provided to them. One person said 'I would and could speak to staff regarding any issues.'
