During a routine inspection

People we spoke with told us the staff were 'very friendly' and that the dentist always explained the required treatment in a way that was easily understood. People said they were seen promptly and not kept waiting, and this was important to them. People told us the practice was able to accommodate same day emergency treatment in a timely fashion. The practice offered people a 'walk in' service to accommodate emergency dental treatment.

We saw information about treatment charges was available via the patient information leaflet provided to all new patients.

People told us they felt involved in their care. We saw a sample of patient records, including examples of records demonstrating how dentists explained different treatment options and costs.

People who use the service were protected from the risk of abuse because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

People were protected from the risk of infection because appropriate guidance had been followed.

During a routine inspection

During this visit we met with five people who had come for an examination or treatment. One person who had just had bridge work done said that the dentist was 'meticulous every step of the way. They used one of my wedding photographs to see what my teeth were originally like.'

Another person told us they had recently had root canal treatment. 'They took me through everything' they said. 'Did a good job.'

People told us they could get appointments at times that suited them.

We saw that staff asked people about their medical history before treatment was started.

One person said, 'I used to be a nurse, and they really clean,' meaning that they had seen the premises were always cleaned to a high standard.

The surgery is on the second and third floors of a house with no alternative access to the flight of stairs.
